Well, in all honesty – nothing! The gardens have been put to bed, the snow has covered them over and the cold weather is settling in. However, January can be a great time to forage outside for wintry greens, lichens, pine cones, branches and other interesting items.

Another creative option can be utilizing dried botanicals. Although, they are often found more in autumn designs, I have found that couples are embracing their florists creativity and giving them the freedom to do something unique and unexpected. Dried or bleached nigella pods, babies breath and/or ferns can give you a really stunning, even wintry style.

Candles are always a perfect fit for a wintry tablescape and can even be a dramatic display with minimal or even without florals. My advice – embrace the season! Use those short, winter days to create a really romantic, candlelight design. Or incorporate seasonal aspects like pine cones and winter greens, it will make your wedding design uniquely yours.
